Associate Professor Mark Evans

MDSc, GradDipClinDent, MRACDS(Endo), FPFA, FADI, FICD

Mark obtained his general dental degree from the University of Melbourne in 1990. He then served as a Dental Officer with the Royal Australian Air Force before entering private general practice.

As a general dentist he discovered a deep interest in the area of endodontics and decided that his future should be in this complex field of dentistry.

He completed his specialist training, a three-year, full-time program in 2001 and he has been in specialist endodontic practice ever since.

Dr Mark Evans

Mark has been heavily involved in the education of dental students, at both under-graduate and post-graduate level, for more than twenty-five years. He was an examiner with the Australian Dental Council (ADC) from 2001 until 2015 and currently serves as an accreditor with the ADC; a role which involves assessing and accrediting dental and specialist dental degrees within Australia and overseas. He has published several papers in international dental and medical journals, and serves as a reviewer for four international dental journals. One of his recent papers was awarded ‘Top Cited Article’ status by Wiley Publishing for being one of the most cited papers in 2023.

Mark was appointed as a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Melbourne in 2016 and has been awarded Fellowships with the Pierre Fauchard Academy, the Academy of Dentistry International and the International College of Dentists for his work in the dental profession.

Dr Pope takes an empathetic and caring approach towards his patients’ care

His approach to endodontic treatment is based on:

  • Understanding root canal treatment from the patient’s perspective
  • Providing options that make root canal therapy a manageable experience for the patient
  • Pioneering conservative minimally invasive techniques in Melbourne
  • Building confidence in long term treatment success
  • Bringing industry leading materials, technology and techniques to treatment.

Both my team and I strive to bring a more personal and caring approach to clinical practice. It’s our hope this helps people to relax and feel more confident about root canal therapy, knowing they are in good hands.
